Top latch hooks, long and short

#1 Post by John Wurner »

I am trying to match top latch hooks to the latches.
There is a long version and a short version (see pic)
I have both Speedster and Cab latches, which hooks belong to which latch?

Well the pics did not take.
Sorry. The short version is about one inch, the long about 1 1/2 inch.
Both have two holes for screws.
My guess, the shorts are for Cabs and the longer ones for Speedster latches.

The other way around John. The shorter levers are for speedsters. With the different top bow on a speedster the long levers interfere. Cabs have more room with the wood bow.

Jules, on second thought, I am talking about the hook and plate that the
latches clam on to. They are mounted on the windshield frame.
Are we on the same wave length?

John - I don't think your question can be answered without some pictures ...

I just met a guy trying to assemble a Convertible D latch on a restoration without success. His seemed much too short. I wonder if Convertible Ds had two types of latches, early and late, and which kind they had?

Not my photo but here is an example of 2 different latches. The shorter one (90 degree) is from a speedster, the other one is from a conv D or early roadster. The part that they latch to are the same, I believe.

The Cabriolet, at least the later ones, have another style of clamp that looks very different from either of these

Harlan - you wonder correctly the latches for D`s were different for T5 and T6

Mike,
I will pass this information on. Thanks. (My car, 85519 is very early, it has the "short" latches.)
