Hi all,
What is the easy way to release the E Brake cable at connection point under hood and access panel on 356A?
Should pressure on E brake be released?
I see it connected but see no way to disconnect it to add long rubber cable boot.
Also unsure where this round doughnut rubber piece goes. I believe it is the speedo cable next to the E brake but it is too wide to fit thru the narrow opening of the round rubber piece.
Thank you,
Steve

under the front of the car is the cable that goes to the rear. you'll have to remove the nut on the end of that cable and pull the threaded end out of the arm section. slip your bellows boot over the cable and back to the bulked where it fits over the tube the cable runs into. now on the upper arm, pull the pin out (small cotter pin holding it in place). slide the donut looking boot up the cable to the tube. reconnect the upper cable, then the lower cable and adjust at the lower cable.

+1
You can deal with the upper cable without undoing the lower cable if you wedge the sickle bar with a block of wood so as to put the pin connection in an accessible position. Note that the upper cable doubles as a torsion spring which rotates the brake handle to the rest position. Putting the pin back takes a bit of fiddling as the blade is under torque and the hole line up can be frustrating.

Thanks all for the useful info.
Still a bit unsure exactly where and how to install the round rubber piece.
Does it go on the front side or back side where speedo and e brake cable comes thru to the front?
Is it on the e brake cable?
Thanks.
Steve

Steve, the donut shaped rubber goes on the upper e-brake cable, with the large opening to the rear. It is pushed back then worked over the end of the tube that comes through the firewall.

Harlan,
What is a sickle bar? Exactly how and where to loosen e brake cable to put these two rubber pieces on the easiest way?
