Are there date codes on starters and generators? starter number is EED 05/6 L35, then below that is 12M. generator number is,
0 101 206 029
EG 7V 50A 28, Also a 704 under where the strap would be.
THANKS Jay D.

12M is December 1956
704 should be April 1967

I'm pretty sure the Bosch date code chart is on our website.

The Bosch chart only goes to 1966 with the 6xx numbers. I assume the number 704 would be for a 1967. However, the EG 7V 50A sounds to me like a 6V generator. Hopefully someone way more knowledgeable on the 356 electrics will weigh in.

That probably means they were still making 6 volt replacement parts after new cars were all 12 volt.

I hadn't considered that, Martin. Good point.

Thanks!

When a generator was rebuilt, the rebuild date would have been stamped on it. You will often find generators with a string of dates stamped on it. It simply shows the various rebuild dates.
