60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
Greetings and happy Halloween,
I have a question that is probably not too important but i will try it right (with your help). I have several different bumper brackets for my early B roadster. The frame has 3 nutserts where the bumper brackets will be mounted. I do have a set of bumper brackets with 3 slotted holes. That is what i think is correct. However, i do have another set of brackets that only have 2 longer slots that correspond to the outside nutserts on the roadter’s body/frame. The question is, which is correct? I checked the exploded view from my books and it only shows the brackets with 2 slots. (You may also note that the one with 3 slotted holes is shorter than the one with 2 holes)
Any thoughts
Brock

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
As far as I remember my 62 T6 has just two per side, and they are nuts and bolts. I would have thought all the B cars are the same, but maybe not, especially since you have 3-hole brackets too.

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
Martin,
Thanks for the reply, I’m wondering if my very early B is more similar to an A in this instance (using 3 bolts). No nuts by the way, there are nutserts welded to the frame on both sides.
Brock.

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
The A has a extension to hold the bracket just below the body inner structure, while the B has no extension, and the brackets are therefor mounted a bit higher. I imagine yours wouldn’t have the extension as the brackets would need more of a jog upward.

Someone needs to post the parts book on this one. No similarity between A and B.

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
I have this view and it shows 2 holes (but it is a B/C version). Again my question, anyone know which is correct? The two hole version or the 3 hole version?

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
It seems like there is no record of a three hole version. Wouldn’t the B/C diagram be appropriate for your B car?

Re: 60 T5B rear bumper bracket question
It is but then why are there 3 nutserts welded to the frame in the rear. (Certainly seems factory “installed”). Maybe the factory started with 3 and then decided to save a few Marks and went with 2 later on?

Brad,
My chassis number is 86958. I believe it was made in the second half of 1959. Drauz roadster

BROCK,
my Roadster is 86955 also made 9/59 has 2 hole brackets in the rear. I have owned it since 1972 and believe them to be original.

Very interesting! Great to hear. Our cars are practically brothers (or maybe sisters since mine is a Normal). Mine was also originally Aetna blue but with a grey interior. Nice wheels!
