Door Latch spring has broken
The left door will not stay close unless. I took some of the door card off and found a broken spring. I couldn't work out how to get the handles of to completely remove the doorcard so I was working with it on. I bought a generic spring and tried to fit but couldn't workout where the other end of the spring goes? Perhaps it's where I've highlighted in red?

Hi Neil. If you push the door card in around the handles you should see the roll pins that push out and that will allow you to remove the door handle and window winder handle

See if these pics help. You can see the window crank roll pin by my thumb.the interior door handle has one as well. The door handle should have a spring behind it. If an A model, one should be behind the window crank as well. The door card may have the screw hidden by the map pocket.
Sorry the one showing the roll pin is a video.

This from a C, I do not know if it is the same in your car.

Thank you. Those latches don't appear to look like might? Maybe the slide for the window is hiding the mechanism.
On removing the window winder I did see that pin but thought it should be removed with an Allen key. I will try again. However, they sound like a pain to get back in. Can I remove the latch by undoing the screw/bolts then remove from the rear of the door?

Re: Door Latch spring has broken
Hello, It's possible do do this on your own these pins but they are a bit of a pain, a 2nd pair of hands makes them so much easier. One person pushes on the door card around the door handle/window winder while the other pushes out the pin or puts it back. I always put a sheet under the door as they are a bugger to find when you drop them, but they are only a sprig of a steel pin so easy to replace. If they have not been moved for a long time the punch/thing you are using to push them out might need a little tap.
To reinstall I have found it easier if one end of the pin is touched with a file to make it a bit pointy, this makes it much easier to locate in the hole. I also use hook/bent ended tweezers, from my dissection kit, to put them back in, again with help to push on the door panel.
Hope this helps.

Why do the springs have a black covering on them?

I’d guess it’s to keep them from vibrating and making noise.

Re: Door Latch spring has broken
Well I got some generic springs and tried to fit one. It latest until I put the card back on! I've ordered the correct springs from PRS
How can I remove the latch to fit the spring. I wasn't dexterous to fit the spring with the latch attached. I tried undoing the 6 screws but it didn't move. I did this in my 912 and it was a super pain to refit so I would prefer not to remove the latch but maybe I have too
