Fortunately there are electronic gauges that will help you set the torsion bar angle front and rear. BUT! the alignment (Hunter) rack is short between the front axle pivots and the rear axil pivot which makes for a situation that takes extra time to get the rear to be correctly set. You have got to drive the car for 50 or so miles to get the suspension to return to the new setting.

Alignment I can handle nicely with strings, plumb bob and a tape measure. I can even make it go straight!

For the cost of the alignment*, you could have the driveway graded and repaved. Do you make your marks right on the concrete floor, or do you put masking tape down like I do? (It was a lot harder to do before I discovered concrete a few years ago.) Did you check Harlan's suggestion? Was there anything else that you did that is remotely connected to the transmission mounting?

*i.e. buying the Hunter equipment and using it.

Harlan’s suggestion seems like the only possibility, and I did have the hoop bolts out. When I ran them in I wasn’t thinking about getting them positioned correctly. I do put tape down for marking on with a pen. I still have some 2” and 3/4” yellow masking tape from when I closed my body shop. Once it’s gone I’ll be back to cringing at $8 rolls of tape.

From Wes’s suggestion about a repaved drive I wonder if he spends thousands of dollars for a wheel alignment.
I had intended to pick up a 2x12 today to make a version of what’s in the video, but I forgot

Vic, would you elaborate on the adjustment of the front transaxle mounts? I know you can adjust fore and aft with the shims but curious about up and down.

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. I was able to loosen the hoop bolts enough to see the hoop got itself properly into position.
Turns out my issue was not the impossible problem I thought I had. I had loosened one side of the bumper to tighten the exhaust funnel, and apparently retightened the bumper a trifle lower than it had been, 8 mm max. One bumper guard has a fresh grind on it, the muffler only has old marks. My drive has the absolute steepest angle that my car can negotiate, as long as the bumper is straight.
My apologies, next time I ask for help I’ll make sure I know what I am talking about.

Uh, painting rubber? They get a consolation prize for optimism, anyway. At least peeling it back to bare rubber will be a cinch.

I need to replace the rear transmission rubber mounts on my 1964 356 C. They are rotten and deteriorating. I searched the forum and one post said that they are easy to remove and replace. I read the workshop manual which makes removal sound straight forward: 1. remove six bolts that hold the transmission rubber mounts to the transmission carrier; 2. remove transmission carrier; 3. remove rubber mounts from transmission housing. Installation of new mounts in reverse order. I searched for further insights, lessons learned, or more about the procedure and could not find any further details. Is it as simple as it appears? Any insights would be appreciated.

You don't need to remove the hoop between the trans. & engine to replace the twin (R & L) rubber mounts
unless you need to support the engine's rear!
Therefore skip #2.
