Leitz luggage rack decal position

#1 Post by Stan Yarrish »

Hi Guys,
Can you advise me, or send a picture of the correct location of the Leitz decal for the luggage rack, mounted on a 65C Coupe.

Thanks, Stan

Stan,

It affixes to the bottom bar, as seen in these pictures, one from Charlie's website. There is not a clear shot of the sticker and you'll have to zoom, but I hope this helps. On the bottom picture it is a bit hard to see, it looks like the standoff sits on top of the sticker but that is an optical illusion as it is forward of the bottom bar.

Here is an original rack. Decal just to the right of the weld.

I was the US importer for those racks back in the day. The label was over the weld on all the racks I received. I always assumed that was placed there to hide the weld.

Brad
That rack in the picture I posted came from Canada, about 25 years ago. Appears to be all original, but who knows for sure.

Here's another picture of the rack from Der White's web site showing a picture from the 1962/63 accessory booklet. The decal is clearly not on the lower bar near the weld. I'm so confused....

I believe Brad is correct, as usual. I had a luggage rack on a 356SC cabriolet I bought new in 1964 and it had the decal covering the weld. Never saw otherwise.

Pete is a highly accomplished pilot! He landed jets on a moving carrier.....in the dark of night.....at sea....with only a short strip of landing lights....depending on a hook to stop him.

Now we know why there is no luggage rack on Pete's immaculate Champagne yellow Carrera 2 coupe...

And, why let anybody see the unsightly weld when it can be covered up by the label?
