This isn't on our classifieds but I thought people should be aware of it:

https://repocar4sale.com/product-category/classic-cars/

This looks to be a site made up to trick people. The 356 listed was sold on BAT.

Anthony Smith in classifieds, beware

#19 Post by Joris Koning »

Just reported this. The ad for the Hazet box, handles and dash is most likely a scammer. He tried to pull the same on Pelican some time back. Beware

Price rollback in classifieds for pre-A dash, restored square-handles, and Hazet spare-tire toolkit.
Advertiser joined Registry Dec 18, and only accepts PayPal friends and family.
No protection from PayPal if you commit this fraudulent payment scheme. My guess is it would be a Merry Christmas for him, and lumps of coal for you.

I may have one soon but have been giving the seller plenty of time to make partial restitution. Had advertised a complete engine on engines for sale that happened to be my exact number. Did not get an engine but just the rear cover with my number (1960) then a broken block from 1958, some heads from 1954 a broken crank zenith carbs from a french car (carb rescue laughed when I sent them) and a bunch of mismatched rusty parts NOTHING I could use to rebuild the engine except maybe three rods. When I sent the "junk" back, he said something like "What am I going to do with that stuff?" I have a third member some zenith air cleaner housings, a fan shroud, and a few misc parts. He said he would send me 2000 (out of the 4500 I paid) back but demands that I send him a rocker arm assembly. SO when my engine is built by Chuck (doing a beautiful job while he and I continue to source parts) I will send him the few misc parts and see if he sends me back my money. (one of the most unreasonable people in this 356 world that I have dealt with in my over 45 years in the Porsche business!!!!!!!!

After you are finished, it would seem quite reasonable to share his name. As long as you tell the truth (which I’m sure you would) I see no reason not to.

Just had a fraud perpetrated this week related to wheels being sold in the Registry classifieds. I was looking for wheels date stamped 2/58 and after seeing none in the Registry classifieds, put in a "want to buy" request on the Samba. I got a response from a guy with a picture of wheels that I remembered seeing in the Registry classifieds. He claimed they were his and that they were Lemmerz 2/58, though the ad in the Registry clearly identified them as KPZ. I figured he was a crook, so decided to play him a bit. When I asked him why a different guy had listed the wheels, he told me that was his son and that they had lots of wheels including Lemmerz 2/58 and 3/58. In the interim, I had contacted the person that listed the wheels in the Registry and he told me he did not have any 2/58. I continued to work the scammer and asked for photos. He reassured me that he had the wheelsin Denver, told me that the camera on his phone had stopped working and again asked for Paypal. I told him my "brother" lived in Denver and could pick up the wheels and would pay cash. At that point, he told me he had just moved to a different city and sent a picture of of a driver's license with a name different than the one on the emails. Again, I asked for photos. This is FUN!!

There is a scam being tried on facebook within car groups: The person posts some photos of a car that is not theirs. They say there is no title and they are parting the car out. The car looks good and is in salvageable condition or even in driver condition. The scam plays on your emotions because you don't want to see the car parted out, so you message the "seller" who incidentally has turned OFF the comments not to be called out by observers. He/she replies with a low price. When you ask for vin photos or an engine number, just silence. Also, beware of the urgency scam which can be intertwined ie you have to send the $ now because I have another person coming soon...do not use zelle, cash app, venmo, or wire money if you do not know the person. Planning an expensive car purchase? fly or drive to put your hands on it.
See my 1957 speedster "backyard find" story in September\October 356registry magazine. I am always looking for an old Porsche to write stories about or interesting stories about an old Porsche to relay for the magazine.
