Weber 46 IDM Aux Venturi

#1 Post by Bill Sargent »

For the hi-tech car nerds out there. 3D printed prototypes for 2 sizes of auxiliary venturi for Weber 46 IDM sand cast carburetors. These carbs were made from the late 50s thru 1963 and were used on some spyders, RS60, 718 and early 904s. These parts sometimes break during removal and have not been available for over 50 years, so many vintage race cars need them. Next steps are flow testing on an original Weber flow bench, changes to the CAD model if needed and then CNC machine in aluminum.

For the sharp eyed out there, the design is a hybrid and uses the later spring type locator in place of the original spring loaded brass pin.

It took about 8 hours total between taking measurements and building the CAD model. Cost for each plastic prototype part was $45. Many thanks to Jeff Adam’s at Speedsport Tuning for sending me some of the fuel flow slot measurements.
