That's right, Martin.
The Carrera head has the valves at an angle to the cylinder axis. This makes it awkward to replace valve guides, valve seats, or machine anything else. This jig makes it much easier to machine the head. I've never had to machine the cam cover face, but you could do that too. There's a drawing in the Carrera Guide along with instructions for converting 1500cc heads to 1600cc. That job and the valve guides and spring seats was the reason for the jig in the first place.

the workshop manual states that 40* would be correct but the actual is 39* as confirmed by the book.

Here are a few of the tools I have collected over the years.
Used to turn long valve drive shaft prior to head installation to check gear contact pattern etc. Made from damaged short gear part and a sacrificial socket.
My Design to tighten Carrera oil lines near the coolers where there is no space. Sacrificial crow’s foot wrench and socked welded and milled.- Attachments
