Mystery Tool

#1 Post by Jay Broemmel »

Found this during a move at our shop. It’s a Snap-On brand something or other. It’s like a little handheld lathe. There’s obviously a hand crank, sort of like an old bit and brace set up and two different size collets, with some other little sub collets for 9-10 total diameters. Also a lathe-type cutter. If anyone knows what this is, and can use it, you can have it for the cost of shipping, and buy me some beers at the WCH. J

Hi Jay - I'll take it and practice on some old generators. I've seen one like that about 40-50 years ago at a one man garage. It's a tool to recondition the commutator by cutting the mica. I'll pick it up at the WCH in Paso Robles if you don't mind after some 805 brews at the Firestone Walker Brewery down the road. Ken

I found a page from the 1955 Snap On tool catalog describing the Blue Point armature testing and reconditioning tools.

Deal! I will clean up the commutators on some of our old grinders to see how it works. I had an 805 for the first time in a while this week. So tasty! See u at WCH. J
