Assuming he knows all about Miatas, I wonder why he’d own such a 914. Regardless, a fun story to read.

I have to say the author has a great sense of humor. The only 914 I ever owned had 12K miles on it when I bought it and 18K miles on it when I sold it so I must say that I enjoyed mine while I had it.

A 914 in good tune is a delight to drive. I bought a 74, 2 ltr limited edition in California in 87 for $700. Yes it needed some work but especially after I rebuilt the engine it was very fast, very reliable. I drove up to Mount Palomar via S6 which road may have been built just for a mid engined car with a low polar moment of inertia.
An absolute blast and the disc brakes never showed signs of fade on the way up but they did smell a little hot on the way down. If you live down that way it is a road to put on your bucket list.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

fun reading, and yes i'm just getting use to pumping my Dellortos GOT A LAUGH OUT OF THAT. i bought a new 73 914, i liked. we went back to South Dakota and back in those day most of the states back there had no speed limit. the 914 would cruse at or slightly above 100 all day. i'd like to have another one, but then i like odd stuff.

I got a kick out of it... I owned 15+ 914's starting when I was 18 years old. I was thinking about getting one to build an EV 914 !!!
 Thanks,

carbs were never good when retrofitted onto a 914 engine. Fuel injection starts every time and is highly reliable, even at 50 years old. Wish my 356s had it. I drive my 75 2.0 (silver metallic needs paint) every day and love it, I keep my five 356s in my dehumidified display area afraid of getting a road nick on them!!!

Had my daily driver '75 914 2.0 for 12 years - was a great car and only stranded me one time due to a bad relay board. Sold it to George Hussey for a 944 due to two boys that needed a place to ride. Photo from Fort Ord in the mid-1980s.

You are a "Bad Boy" George H. Just like most of us on this site. I just don't have as many toys as you do. ............Jim.
