Saw this pair for sale at a swapmeet. Don’t know if they are real or not, there were no markings on the back.

Some originals weren't stamped. These look like the one I have. Did you buy them?

HOlY CRAP! The last one I saw a few years ago at the L.A. Lit Show was $1000. I found one a while back for substantially less.

Anyone know which came first? Redondo? Manhattan Beach?
The plates kind of confuse me, because I remember Vasek Polak as being in Hermosa Beach on PCH and 1st St. That would be 56 years ago when we moved to Manhattan Beach to 37 years ago, when I moved out of the South Bay. As a kid, I remember the 917s and other race cars. I had a '59 356A when I was 21 that I bought for $3000. The paint was cracked and worn, and there had been mold on the seats. I had soft racks for it, and I remember myself and two friends taking it south on a surf trip. One guy in the back and four boards on top. You do whatcha gotta do. I loved that car, but had to sell it because I could not afford the parts. I was attending El Camino, and had to take the bus more often than I was driving the car, because I did not enough money to buy parts when it broke. The straw that broke the camel's back was when a very small carburetor linkage broke and Vasek Polak wanted $14.00 for it. That is probably $140.00 in today's currency. I sold the car it for $3000 and bought another Type II. Oh yeah, I tried using a wire hanger for the linkage, but adjusting a wire hanger is frustrating and kinda stupid.

BTW, I saw some Vasek Polak frames on eBay. I think they were going for over a hundred dollars.

I had my own company's frame made "the Stable" and it took a lot of convincing of Porsche that I was worth it. Alan The Stable.

I don't know the exact peregrinations of Vasek Polak's Dealerships, but when I moved into the area in 1986, It was on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd St in Hermosa, right on the line with Redondo Beach (maybe between 1st and 2nd as they are very short blocks there). It's a very nice CVS store now (sarcastic).
He also had a facility north on PCH in Manhattan Beach but it was close - I think at the time it was a Saab dealership and maybe some other off brand such as Subaru (soon to be not an off brand) - I don't really remember, but I believe there were some race cars in the showroom as it was a considerably larger building than the one in Hermosa Beach. In '86, the facility in Hermosa was still a Porsche dealership. I went in there when I first came to the area to buy something for my C coupe at the time - I talked with Vasek for about 15 minutes - he appeared ancient to me at the time but probably younger than I am now.
The Vasek Polak frame I have on my car I found at a local garage sale. It was thrown in with the other junk I bought.

Ahem, I'll have you know that the cardboard is for my beetle that usually sits there, this car is absolutely oil tight (I also have some land for sale in southern Florida if you're interested)
