Apal Porsche Coupe 1600 restoration

Hi all,
I recently started a full restoration of a very (very) rare 1961 Apal Porsche Coupe 1600.
Only 150 cars were built between 1961-1965 by Apal in Blegny/Belgium (Europe) and only 30 of them were using Porsche 356B parts/drivetrain/suspension.
Unfortunally the car was for the most part dismantled and a lot of small (Porsche) items missing
Regarding the fact that still some Porsche parts are present inside the car I regard my car as one of these few.
This is how it can be in the end
If anyone has more information about these cars or just want to chat about it, let me know
Paul
PS: I'm located in The Netherlands

Congratulations! I love oddball cars and have owned some. Enjoy being "different". Didn't our club publish an article about the Apal? People here that still possess a memory will let you know. Best of luck.

Google APAL car for articles on the APAL. Petrolicious has a good one.

Thanks for the comments, I did find some articles allready on the Coupe.
Also met some Apal (buggy) owners last weekend at the clubmeet near the old factory in Belgium.
As far as I know there seem to be three cars in the USA.
There were 2 in The Netherlands but these have been sold (to the USA it seems)
So I'm pretty much on my own with my 'special' car.
I also applied for 356 club membership at the local club and they take it in consideration if they allow me or not when they regard it not as a replica but a brother/sister car to the 356..
For now I'm on the hunt for parts to complete 356B brakesystem.
I have the rear drums, located a set of 4 backing plates and one front drum.
All other brake parts can be bought new like cylinders, springs, shoes etc..
Although being close to Germany it's rather a challenge to locate the correct datecoded parts.

If you go to the Document library on the main website and type in APAL in the text search, it brings up 2 articles….one written by Gordon Maltby.

Paul, email sent on an unrestored one in NL with B brakes. Maybe useful to you as a reference
