1955 pedals

#1 Post by Brad Lang »

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone can let me know if the pedal assembly in a 55 is bolted to the floor pan or riveted? Thanks for your help!

They are attached to the floor with solid rivets Brad.

Yes, solid steel round head rivets.
And while you are at it, remember to install the sheet metal tabs on the side of the tunnel that hold down the rear end of the aluminum tunnel cover. And the L bracket on the tunnel floor for the back up light switch. Those two items are frequently overlooked when replacing the floor pan and central tunnel.

Thank you for the detail pictures on the back up light bracket. Now on the tabs for holding down the rear of the aluminum tunnel cover, do you have any pictures of those? I’ve been hunting for pictures with no luck. Thanks again

These are from my 53 cabriolet and I assume they would be the same for your 55.

This is someone else's photo, and I'm not sure what year car it is from.

Brad

In the last photo posted above you can see the rectangular sheet metal tab on the left side of the tunnel. The forward half is spot welded to the tunnel. The rear half is folded forward to form a narrow U shape. The rear end of the tunnel cover slips into the tab. When installed, the flange of the aluminum tunnel cover bears against the lower edge of the tab, so use the aluminum tunnel cover as a guide to position the new tabs on central tunnel.
