Fuel Petcock question

#1 Post by Steve Nau »

The petcock on my 56 coupe had the brass tube that draws the fuel to the engine broken off.
I replaced it with a piece of copper tubing and it works fine.
My problem is I don't know how long the two copper tubes should be. I have the primary tube too long because I run out of fuel at about a quarter tank and
have to switch to reserve. Does anybody have a spare petcock that they could send me the measurements for the tube lengths?
Thanks

Out of my '59. No measurements but you should be able to eyeball the length........ if the two petcocks are similar.

Steve: if all the petcocks are the same, I can measure a spare one I have.

I measure the long one at 75mm and the short one at 15mm from the base without the fiber washer.

Interesting. Looks like the one in the picture from David Jones is closer to 90mm from the base. I think I will shorten mine to about 75mm and see how that works.
Thanks again to all for the help.

Steve, there are two versions of the 356 valve so there may well be a difference in length.

That's what I thought as well, Dave. Probably depends upon the style of the tank; early vs. T-6.

Any idea which measurements go with early since that would be mine.

Steve, the one I pictured is for a T6 with external filler and outside cockpit valve. You may notice that the fuel outlet is at 90 degrees to the actuator rod and the earlier version had the fuel outlet on the back.
