Latest addition 356 T1 V-sunroof 56'

#1 Post by Alexis MARTOT »

Hello,
Haven't been here for a while. Used to own a Signal Red T1 15 years ago then a 64' C coupe as well as a 67' Porsche 912.
Just purchased in Germany a 56' V-sunroof T1 coupe.
Original colour appears to be acquamarine. Now silver on red, beautiful color combination as well.
The CoA shows the car was delivered new at Hoffmann's New York in April 56. VIN is #56080.
Looking for some history on this car, maybe someone from the registry knows or came across this car at some point. The car was shipped from California to Germany in 2003 I believe.
Any help highly appreciated!
Very solid car overall, restored in 2004 and still shows very well. Going to drop the engine for a check-up and a good clean.

[Yes the previous owner restored it into a light GT tribute.
I could be wrong but the brakes are not the 60mm I can post some more photographs!
About to put the engine back in the car after a big check-up and a good clean.

You are correct, those don't appear to be 60mm brakes. Odd that the spacers are added on the rear then.

I did not have any other GT features in mind. Seeing the GT logo, the rear lid louvers and the spacers made me think that at least the 60MM brakes had been added and maybe more. I did check to see that there were regular window winders and so assumed that it was not "full" GT. Nothing negative about my comments! Drive, drive, drive!

No problem Eric! I was just curious whether I missed something! For me the tach is GT style as well.
Yes I hurry up to put the engine back in and want to start driving.

Engine now back in the car, happy to see that the dansk sport tailpipes clear the T1 rear valance which I wasn't too sure about....
Firing it up tomorrow if all goes well.

Very nice.
Curious what shifter set up do you have there?

Good luck with your wonderful car!

Gary, the previous owner moved the heating control knob forward like on a T2 and installed a 912 shift lever. Works quite nice and is more precise than my previous T1 with original shifter.
But maybe I will go back original one day but need to source the original parts....
Greetings from Paris.

Hi, beautiful car. I grafted a 56 v sunroof onto a 57 body. We have rebuilt the v panel and it appears to be working properly. I can't find anyone in the States that has any detail pictures of the trim or how the interior pieces fit together. If you ever get a chance, I would greatly appreciate any close-up pictures you could spare. Thank you.
