Solex 32 PBIC Gas drip

#1 Post by Steve Nau »

I installed rebuild kits in both carbs on my 56 normal during the rebuild.
The car starts fine when cold. After driving and getting it warmed up I can turn it off and it will start right up again.
After letting it sit for awhile it doesn't want to start easily.

it was suggested I might have vapor lock due to improper float levels. I removed the air cleaners and found that one of the carbs smokes when I turn off the engine but the other one does not. So I adjusted the float on the smoking carb by adding a washer under the jet and bending the metal on the float. It still smokes.

So I swapped the float from the carb that does not smoke with the carb that does smoke. Nothing changed. The same carb smokes. So that seems to rule out float levels as the cause of the problem.

Where do I look next for the fuel leak in the carb?

Open oil fill cap right after shut off. Smoke at filler cap? Same as carb smoke? Maybe engine always settles on shutoff with intake valve open letting smoke travel up intake manifold and out carb.
