I am doing the same rebuild on my S90, and have settled on the Shasta CNC-machined iron barrels with +JE pistons, 9.25 CR, FWIW.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those are JE pistons that he sells? Any head modification needed with those pistons? What did you do for bearings? I heard that I should have my cases line bored. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me if this is a B crank or something later? I know that the motor had a lot of work done in late 67 and early 68. Thanks!

It looks to be a SC/912 counterweighted crank. I am not up on the rod numbers but somebody will id those for you. Do you know what was in the combustion chamber beating up that piston? You might look inside the carb air horns to make sure nothing is missing. I had a Zenith air correction jet fall in once. Luckily it stayed behind the intake valve and wore into a perfect sphere. Eventually it would have gotten small enough to go into the chamber and wreak havoc, but it didn't.

Thanks for the info! The piston collapsed and the ring did that damage.

Those are the very late B, S90, C, SC, 912 type rods. Just get them inspected, as well as the crank, but you may have a great set of parts, those Arias P/C excepted. You need to ID the heads, show us the valve head, combustion chamber side, and what is the engine number, right under the generator stand, beyween the stars. Also measure and share the diameter of the clutch plate, and a side view of the flywheel. That has the potential to make a great engine!

Goal was to start the motor on or before my 50th birthday. Success!! Thanks to Dennis at Moonlight and my friends Kerry, Tom and Paul. Down side is a pin hole in a valve cover. Left most of the chrome as my dad had it in the mid/late sixties. Replaced the MC pistons, Aluminum retainers, dual valve springs, Isky cam, Carrera/VW clutch conversion.

Jason,

The piston(s) looks like an Arias Hi-compression 85mm(?) B/bore; I have a Arias set which 1- lightened wrist pin broke and ruined the head!
I do have another Arias P/C set which was rebuilt to 86mm specs for sale. Also, I have a Mahle 85mm P/C iron set which its compression ratio
being estimated @ 8 to 1; Final ratio would be determined by matched chamber CCs @ assembly,. Either complete set to be determined if desired.

Finally took some pics of the paperwork my dad saved. He was an "Early Outlaw!" Classic that at the 1500 mile service he bought an Abarth muffler for $58.00! A few years later, after the crank broke, he added some mods to the motor. 692 pressure plate, Isky 107 cam, MC pistons, porting, etc. Was drilling a middle hole in the compensator spring bolt a thing back then or did they come with 3 holes? Check out the prices back in the mid 60's!!

Always a treat to see the old prices as our minds are geared to today's. I see a castle nut for the bolt which indicates the holes are original for a cotter pin.

Are there good photos and diagrams for reinstalling the sunroof? I didn't disassemble it so, I'm not sure how things go back together. For instance, how is the headliner piece attached, where does the felt / seals go, how do you shim it, etc? Are new cables available for an electric sunroof? Thanks again for your comments and help!!
