4 Cam Cooling Housing

#1 Post by John Clarke »

Hi All
Good to see this overdue 4 Cam section introduced finally. Thanks to all involved in this.
I, like many don't have a 4 Cam, but have always thought how good looking your engines are, instead of looking like some hopped up VW motor!
I do wonder why Porsche never introduced the 4 cam Cooling housing for the pushrod motors. With the generator sitting nicely inside the Housing.
Just asking
Regards Jay

Hi John
I would think the answer is cost. VW did not see a need to change until the Type III and the Type IV with different body styles. Porsche kept the vertical fan above the crankcase for the 911 even the 908. i llke the horizontal Corvair style the Elva-Porsche and the 917 and some 911s based 935/956/952. Besides they were not as inventive as Ibraham to figure out what to do with the oil cooler. You can go the faux 4-cam look for more money than your car cost origianlly but it still less money than a real one.

Hi John,
As Jacques mentioned ,Cost of Carrera shroud vs ready build vw shroud and redesigning all the other parts to meet the Carrera shroud .
We have been since 15 years doing the 4 Cam Cooling on 616 pushrod engines and 45 units build, some build for real Carrera engines.
For pushrod version of the Carrera cooling shroud has few modifications inside the air channels to effectively cool the cylinder heads.
We love the timeless design of the Carrera cooling Unit .
