Please post pictures of the 4 cam tools, special Jigs factory ones or your design ..And What are they for ,where it is used...
Few years ago, visiting Jacques shop and in there him taking me in his special room
when he learned in my original trade " I am a Tool and Die maker "
In this room there were, one after another special tool boxes ,in them ( maybe 50 drawers ) many kinds of micrometers
Expensive ones for many ways of very high tolerance measurement s...
I have never seen before these many special micrometers....

Used when removing valve springs, so the valves don't open when compressing springs. Got the idea from Jacques.

tool for counting revolutions during valve timing. Adjustable 46mm socket for flywheel nut and extended shaft with universals to go through engine stand. This is a modified version of Jacque's invention.

Very smart,Love it...Very nice tool....Makes it super easy not to forget the number of the turn....
What was the turn count to get to one valve ? 32 times?

Hi Greg
you have not seen the CNC 4th axis that was repurposed with a 24000 line Heidenhain rotary encoder. BTW it's 41mm not 46.

That is pretty trick Jacques, cool stuff. Have you ever considered taking a read out together with one from a digital dial gauge so that you can accurately map lift and duration for all cylinders and compare?

I am sure you aware that the lift and duration depends on where the drag lever meets the cam lobe. when timming the cams i check the overall lift and duration and centers at 1 to 3 lifts besides the lift that should give about 200* duration. i could use a "Cam Doctor" and have a computer do it but i am old school.

confession: i don't adjust timmig by changing the lash cap. i prefer to have an almost symetrical profile. one that produces the same mid point regardless of the checking lifts.

Have you ever checked how much difference say two different drag levers make to the numbers found for a cylinder? I remember Warren stating they could vary. Have always been curious about this but not been in the position to check so myself yet.

If you have different drag levers of course you will get different results. I think what Warren's engine builder was trying to get a matched set for the engine. It is a big problem if you have to replace a few or if someone previously used mixed ones. Peter Pohl's solution is to redo the Drag levers by grinding them on a fixture so they are matched. you could also replace all of them with new ones. Cam lobes are problematic also since the keyway orientation is critical and can vary even if the profile is identical. Adrian uses offset keys to correct this issue. You can spend(waste) a lot of time in building one of these engines and gain a lot of satisfaction but not necessarily a result commeasuret with the time and treasure spent.
