If doing the annealing and straightening is intimidating, Victor Miles can do a beautiful job on them.

I've done this and it's pretty simple. Totally agree of a few practice attempts on a scrap piece of ally of the same thickness as you get the idea of where work hardening cracks comes into play, which I'd say is a potentially greater problem than melting.
Once you've got the feel of it I found it quite easy, plus the ally is so thick that most of the marks were able to be polished out although I used a professional to do this.
