oil from Tach drive

#1 Post by Mark Todorovich »

Our 52 is ready to come home. Amazingly the only oil leak we can find is is coming from the connection betwen tach drive and cable. I don't think oil is even supposed to get there.
Any ideas , thanks so much.

Don't drive too far or you will end up having to clean all the oil from inside your tach gauge :o
Jules

Water pumps are for windshield washers only.

And the Seal doesn’t work without the steel shim, same diameters!!

And sometimes the recess that the seal sits in is worn deeper and the new seal has to be packed out.

In my 356s I drill a very small hole in the cable ferrule (just above the nut) at the drive end so any oil will leak out there and not be "screw pumped" up the cable and into the tach. It's pretty easy to see a leaking seal drip when doing an oil change.

The joint didn’t have the seal or the steel washer. Blew out the cable and put them on. Dry as a bone. New problem, I’ll run another thread for your help.
Thanks
