Jim

The reason I asked about the 506/2 3 piece engines is that Johnson's book shows them as falling into the range of 52030 and 52844, which is more specific than the factory's range found in the Spec book.

I don't think they fall into that range. There's a fundamental problem that engines were not installed in cars in chassis number order, and chassis were not completed on the assembly line in chassis number order. So it looks like the first car (or cars) with a 3-piece case engine was completed in late Nov 1954, and it had a 506/2. That doesn't mean it was a chassis number earlier than 52845.

In order to know for sure, we'd have to look at all the Kardex documents during this transition period, something Brett and his sources have done.

I believe james is correct the continental came with 1500 cc motors only . The continental was marketed as Porsches crown jewel for 55 ( porsches words not mine ) i have the flyer some place in my stash that says that . So to only offer in 1500 normal would not make sense. i believe most of the 1300s went to France as it was a way to get around Frances horsepower tax. This is a picture of the price guide on the the short lived 1955 porsche marketing flyer called the double barrel deal .. basically a way to get around the USA import taxes on a new car and take a nice european vacation .. Basically order the car come to factory drive your new porsche around europe on your vacation, drop it back off and they ship it home to you as as used car. Brilliant

Ned, I see you are at the same level as I am regarding "screen shots". We take it literally. Interesting document too.
