Pre A Trim

#1 Post by RSTOAD »

Preparing for the assembly of my coupe. Our Per A cars had chrome bezels around the tail and front turn signal assemblies. These bezels originally have a letter and a number on them. What was correct or are both correct. I have a couple sets K 3215 and K 1485 In my 55 coupe and specifically in the front trunk were two upholstery panels glued to each front side wall. Did these mimic the interior vinyl. Again I have two sets one is considerably shorter than the other. They are in quite nice condition Quite sure the long ones were in my coupe 48 years ago when I bought it. I do not know where the other set came from, they are the same shape on the forward end. Could the short ones be from an early Carrera? Were the Speedsters given the same treatment, Appreciate the help

And no the vinyl sound insulation panels on the front storage area walls did not mimic interior vinyl. Pre-1955, these were carpet on Reutter cars. As for length, they extend all the way to the front of the fuel tank. From that point back and on the wall behind the fuel tank, is a different type of sound insulation - a type of tar board. This is discussed elsewhere in these forums. The side and back walls did not get painted black or undercoated. They were exterior paint color with these sound insulation panels glued on top.

Yes mine looks very similar and is in stellar condition. Put up for the last 48 years helps. I have a pair much shorter in amazing condition as well. I have no idea where they came from. They are bound on all sides

Thanks Bob for the pictures. when I fully disassembled this car a few weeks ago I found body color under the luggage strap tie down front edge and middle of the panel under the mat. When I blasted the car 40 odd years ago I do not recall color on that floor under the mat. I am assuming it too was flash painted just enough to color it.

Are the short set of sidewall panels made from carpet? If so, they may be from a split-window car. Or reproduction intended for a split-window car. The fuel tank on a split-window car is deeper and extends further forward than on a bent-window car. I suspect the carpet side wall panels are shorter for it as well. But maybe just by a few inches.
