big thumbs up for Paul's belts. It's the icing on the cake. I do wonder how the temp gauge in the OPs cab works since there is not sender in the engine bay.

If we are talking about the red cab, I think it has a non-original electric temp gauge, and I think in some of the Sotheby's photos you can see a sender.

The "low" number pad area where the serial number is stamped is typically low for some reason for the 1950 - 1951 cars.
In my 45+ years of building these early engines, this was always the case (no pun intended). Seem like right around mid
1952, the number pad area became higher and in early 1953, the number pad area became longer.

My Split Cab. 10105 / P 30023 has the original engine that I built and the number pad area appears to have been "ground"
down for whatever reason. I've see this many times over the years and even "passed" on purchasing these early blocks
because I thought someone intentionally did this. I've seen this over and over again and soon realized that this was mostly
typical of these early blocks. If I only knew then what I've learned about 20 years ago, I would have kept / purchase every
early block that had these characteristics. Also note that there is no ( - ) dash between the P and number. Again, this is what
I've seen over the years. Note sure when the dash became standard though....

Interesting that my 1950 coupe does not follow the above BUT......my 1951 coupe does but in ALUMINUM! There is no consistency :? ...

NOTE: block has been chem. treated as per factory.

Hello, l have 3 x 2piece cases. I am trying to identify them by the casting numbers on the inside of the dynamo stand. One is 27 5 30. l am thinking this is 27th day of 5th month of 3rd shift of 1950. This case appears to be Magnesium. The second is numbered 26 8 29. 26th day of 8th month , 2 shift , 1959. the third is 36 2 1 . It cannot be 36th day of feb and why only 1. Any clarification would be an enormous help. Cheers Jon

My guess is the numbers got switched; 36 for third shift of 1956. What are the numbers on the other half, below the fuel pump area?
