Solex 40 PBIC 1953

#1 Post by Mark Scharnikow »

Hello All,
The accelerator pump gasket is sanwitched between two metal discs that do not come apart. Stoddard dummied up on me and had no idea and their rebuild kit
was cheap and flimsy.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help,
Mark

The plates are screwed together. The "screw" is the piece that also acts as the actuating rod. Will see if I have any pieces to photograph. Photos added. Sometimes they are sort of corroded together like the one shown, and might need a single edge razor blade to pry them apart after the screw and nut are removed, being very careful not to cut yourself!

Martin,
Thankyou for the advice and pics. I thought I was stuck.
The mixture adjustment screw would not screw in and the quality of the gaskets are suspect, very thin.
Thanks again.

I have a few NOS rebuild kits for 40 PBIC if that would work better. I am sure quality was 'tremendous' at one point, but they have been on the shelf for 60 years.

hello Jules,
I would think that the quality of the old gaskets would be far superior to what the market has for sale now. If I can purchase 2 sets from you, please let me know.
Thanks

Hi Mark,
No problem. Also, as I recall, the spacer between the "screw" and the first plate is very important in getting the injection quantity correct. These 40pbic pumps want top put out a LARGE volume of gas and it is a little tricky getting the injection quantity down to the correct amount, and that spacer being there has a significant effect on getting it right.
