Stork single needle oil temperature dial wanted
I am looking for a new dial for a 1952 stork single needle temp gauge. To my surprise i noticed that there are two different types. the first picture is my 1952 gauge with 60 degree Celsius in middle position, the second is the one that is most common with 80 degree Celsius in middle position.
the dial for the last one is available by replica parts limited in the UK. is there a source for the first dial?
Thanks Jeroen

Are you having this done at North Hollywood Speedometer?
Are you going to have a MotoMeter dial face or Stork?
Please post photos after you've made the modifications so we can see how it turns out!

Re: Stork single needle oil temperature dial wanted
Hello Spencer, i would prefer to do it myself if i can get the dial. North hollywood speedometer asked me to send it but is an easy diy job, i already removed the chrome bezel ring, glass and needle.
From this side you can replace the dial.
The needle hole is in exact same position as the stork gauge.
Do you know when they stopped using this motometer gauge?
My cab is aug 1952

Short answer - no. I've only ever had dual scale oil temp gauges with the needle in the middle; one Störk (on my '55) and one MotoMeter (on my '53) with the Max Temp on both at 140*C/280*F. The only information I have on the dual-scale gauges is from the '53 supplement parts manual indicating they were introduced in May of 1952, but no details of the 140*C versus 120*C change. Hartmut Behrens at North Hollywood told me that in his thirty-year experience of servicing early 356 Porsche gauges, about 10% of the oil temp gauges were Moto Meter and 90% were Störk.
I'm glad to help coordinate with NH over here if you need assistance.

Re: Stork single needle oil temperature dial wanted
Hi Jeroen,
Yeah, there were 2 versions of the bent-window Störk single-needle oil temperature gauge as your photos show. The 120/250 gauge was used on the first bent-window cars. 11892 is the last coupe that I know of that had this. 15040 the last cabriolet. The 140/280 gauge was used starting at least with coupe 11933 and cab 15042 and used at least through coupe 50441. This data is based on ~30 existing cars.
There are probably some exceptions. For instance, I think the Moto-Meter started with their double-tip needle gauge before Störk, and this was included on cars as early as Feb 1953 (50189 has one). But there's a lack of data here. Just one or two exceptions.
Congrats on that VW gauge! Perfect donor. You may have to make the face yourself. I don't know of any reproduction. You may want to talk to Giuseppe Felet. If it has been made, he's done it.

Re: Stork single needle oil temperature dial wanted
James thanks for your reply and information.
my coupe 11412 has this early 120/250 gauge still in it. my cabriolet is 15011 so according to your information i need the same dial for it.
this means that the scale of my donor gauge is perfect for my cabriolet!
thanks for the lead, i already contacted Guiseppe to ask if he has them available or otherwise want to reproduce these.
i will update as soon as i have news....

Re: Stork single needle oil temperature dial wanted
At this moment i am reproducing the early dial for the stork oil temperature gauge as pictured.
this 120/250 dial was used on the early 1952 bent window cars and is different than the later 140/180 dial.
according to the information from James Davies:The 120/250 gauge was used on the first bent-window cars. 11892 is the last coupe that I know of that had this. 15040 the last cabriolet. i ordered 10 dials and i am in need of 2 for my own projects.
if anyone is interested please send me a message.
