356 42 020 is what I used on my '52 which was used on the aluminum drum cars so it should work great on an iron drum Pre A. The one in your photo shows a raw iron master which in my experience would indicate a cheap aftermarket VW master. I even used the 356 one on my '53 beetle because of the quality of the VW parts is so poor anymore. 113 611 021 C Is correct for a 50-64 VW cars the bus had a different number

All the VW beetle single circuit master cylinders were 19 mm, not sure about the transporter size.

Yes, the original pre-A master cylinders and wheel cylinders were all 19mm. The ATE wheel cylinders have "19" embossed on them, as does the master cylinder, though many cars have had this replaced. Here's the relevant page from the 1954 Porsche Service Manual

Thanks for all the information.
I changed the master cylinder from 22mm to the original ATE 19mm.
big improvement even with these early steel "VW" brake drums!
