Pre A wooden fuel dip sticks

#1 Post by Doug Naef »

Were all fuel dip sticks from the factory in liters or did some come across the pond with gallon markings for the U.S. market? Thank you for your time and knowledge.

They were in liters in coupes and cabs up through the 1953 model year, including on Hoffman USA cars.

After the wooden dipsticks were replaced with a propery fuel gauge on the assembly line for coupes and cabs in May 1954, they brought the wooden dipstick back for the Speedster later in 1954, and from I've seen, the font on these later sticks is different than the early ones. Smaller and less upright.

Stoddard is now selling a Porsche Classic reproduction in either liters or gallons. I just received mine and it's beautiful and can now keep my original (1953/liters) with my stash of original parts.

Fuel stick on the left is an original, right is a reproduction from Europe.
Big difference in the size of the font & once it hits 40/50 a difference in the placement.
