Thanks Mark- gorgeous project for somebody and love the funky bumper irons. Out of interest what would this car be worth after a top restoration in the US ?

I'm the last guy qualified for valuations, lol. But there are many here very qualified. There is also a Pre A Group on Facebook that is pretty active. Many are here as well on the Facebook page.

Looking forward to your progress!

Oliver Strobel wrote: Wed May 27, 2020 12:50 am I have to put something right: the paintjob was done by a company in Lollar near Gießen. The look was brilliant, but in some places the paint build was over 5mm thick, although a lot of new sheets were used. I was not satisfied with this and had the vehicle picked up again to correct it. I got the 1500 S back in April 2019, but there were still enormously thick paint areas over 5 mm. The company said that nothing would happen. As I had predicted, bubbles came up where the paint is particularly thick. In Germany you have to give someone the opportunity to make two improvements, but they only want to make improvements where the problem has arisen: Smart Repair on a completely newly restored vehicle! That is not what I want. So I contacted a lawyer. What do you think?
I can give the all-clear to my car: the 5 mm paint in certain areas consists mostly of tin. At that time a common and popular material to compensate unevenesses. But they have repaint it because of the bubbles.

I am guessing that the 5 mm is what we call lead, a filler alloy of lead and tin metals? If so the flux used during application can cause bubbling.
If the paint thickness is measured magnetically it might not recognize the lead as being metal.

James, Oliver, Ross -- I am ready to paint my '53 1500S Radium Green! We will shoot it next week....We have matched the paint thanks to the chips, various other cars, and the Registry info....

Oliver and Ross, my paint and interior is identical... Maroon dash, corduroy, etc...

But now, before we paint, several last questions emerge specifically re overspray (where and how much)...

James, your photos were immensely helpful during final restoration....thank you, thank you!! Perhaps you can also help with the following.....

1) We need to know where the Radium green overspray is "correct" in the front compartment? Currently we have an all black appearance with the correct paint etc
2) There is evidence of overspray under the dash including defrost ducts and possibly above pedals...need to verify if at all possible and the books tell us nothing.
3) Engine bay: We know the hinges are painted body color , but is there overspray around where they attach to the firewall? We noticed some, but it might have been from a repaint and not factory....Or does that remain clean black appearance?

We need to complete any potential "factory overspray" as close to original as possible, and i have heard various opinions on this from other members on their cars...but not Pre A folks.....

Thanks in advance and photos to follow

Need some help with seat restoration. Suggestions where I can buy foam for seat base and back rest?
Also need new spring assembly for seat base
.

The project has slowed with Covid. Wiring is complete now and I managed to secure a D Shape Voltage reg at last so everything in enginebay is now correct.
Window glass is installed and ride height adjusted so its sitting correctly.

Just got to find these seat bits to allow completions and hopefully be going down the road by Cmas.

They agreed to the complete repaint and picked the Pre A up 5 weeks ago. Thanks to my lawyer. I'm curious. They promised me photos this time.
How far is your project right now?

Hi Oliver. My hold up is seat restoration . I got onto
Catex StizKlinik. They have what I need being spring assembly for left and right seat bases. But they were out of stock in mid October and said allow 4 weeks - now I can’t get them to answer my emails - Its very frustrating with the time difference and language barrier. I also need foam for seat bases and back rests if you have any leads ?

Hope your repaint goes well

Sure that would be great - I’ve been dealing with Gerald Schubert - could you call and ask does he have seat base spring assembly for left and right Pre A in stock and does he sell seat base foam for Pre A cars ? I’d really appreciate that - my email is ross@publicitypress.com.au
Cheers Ross
