'50-51 Throttle linkage pics or diagram?
Hello again Folks,
Well, we will start the assembly in early Jan. on #10627. We are all pretty excited and ready. We've been prep'in and restoring parts & fastener....well, most of you know the drill!
We have some of the remaining original parts from the throttle system....a swivel, a cable, the rod to the pedal. There is a little bracket that screws to the Bowden tube bracket off the trany....it looks like it might hold the cable. On a '50-51 there are a few things that I've not worked with before....I suspect making up the cable may be the easiest part of the mechanism. I understand that there is no swivel off the trany at the back of the tunnel, maybe, no swivel on the front of the shroud. Possibly a tube going through the shroud?? Did the factory every document this system? Clearly, the cable is in the parts book.... The part in the parts book is even listed w/o a length....
OK....they are humbling cars!

I have also been working on figuring out how the throttle works on a early car. The throttle cable that was on my split was just a early VW cable. Here is a picture of the swivel on 11260 you can see how the end of the cable connects on the fan shroud. I would like to see the bracket you found on the transmission.
Thanks
Tony

Here is an picture of the early bellcrank and an good shot of how the conduit aligns with the bellcrank.
Thanks to Paulo for this picture.
I have no dimensions for the bellcrank nor details of the conduit.
Best Regards,
Al

Re: '50-51 Throttle linkage pics or diagram?
Thanks Al and Paulo!
The picture really confirms what I've found in the front of the car... So, I will be able to set that up. The cable runs through the tube in the tunnel....then what?...is there a housing that extends from the tunnel through the back of the shroud? I've found two anchor points that seem to be set up for a 'housing' - one hanging off the bracket that holds the E-brake cable straps, the other is fastened to the bowden tube bracket on the side of the trany....?? Picture is coming of that bracket!
One other question: how does one remove the old cable housing from the tube for the cold start throttle cable??
Thanks for any help guys! Jim

Back at trans threaded on 1 end and thin wire going inside it and pinched, similar to hood and e-lid pulls.

As I recall we used a VW cable. At the front we made a bushing to fit over the peg, wrapped the cable around and brazed it. Put over peg, washer and cotter pin. Its a Rube Goldberg deal for sure, not hard to see why they changed it in later cars.

The pic of the bowden tube holder with the clamp is for holding the Strangler cable. We have some pics of that I'll see if I can find them.

In case you don't have copy of the early parts manual. The early ones don't always list everything which is a little surprising. Like the clamp for strangler cable at bowden tube mount.
As far as how to get cable out the tube in body we got lucky. The cable housing was rusted in the tube about a foot and a half back in the front of tunnel so we cut the tube extracted cable and housing and welded a new tube on, this was all accessed in front of tunnel. If your putting a pan in it the underside of the tunnel will be exposed so welding a new tube in further back will be pretty straight forward.
Little tip if you chose to go this route, make sure the ends of tubes are cut square so they butt up nicely then make/find a small section of tubing that slips over the 2 tubes and weld. Essentially your making a little connector to Aline both tubes. Avoid a overly hot weld as it can melt the tubing forming a bump on the INSIDE of the tube your trying to insert the cable housing in. If this happens you get to cut that section out and start over.
Small disclaimer. This is what we found on the cars we have looked at. But as we all know things can and do get changed/cobbled up. If anyone has seen or have pics to show something different please post.

Figured I would show what I did which is similar to Lee’s solution. I used a 914 throttle cable to get away from the VW style cable. I found some eyelets on McMaster Carr that I crimped to the pedal side. One more thing off the list Hope to drive this thing before fall sets in.
