I don’t think there is really any doubt that these are the best tyres for a 356?

As far as originally goes, none of the period crossplys are made any more. The only other radial around would have been Michelin X who doesn’t currently make a 165-15X. Dunlop made some radials then that weren’t much cop, but they don’t make them now. The Cinturato CA67 is the only period option.
As far as carcass design goes, the CA67 will handle the best on a 356. Michelin XAS is close alternative, if you are planning long motorway trips arguably the XAS might be better. They are great for directional stability at cruising speeds, it is the nimble progressive handling in the wiggly bits that makes the CA67 best. It’s only other competition worth considering is CN36.

I just installed the Pirelli CN36 and love them. Smooth quiet ride, with good handling.

was considering CN36 tires too but was concerned with manufacturing date. What tire date did you get James? Most tires we purchase today will be too old to use before they wear out
