i've been running mine for the last 3 and a half years, driven pretty hard for 15.000 miles on it with no issues

Hi All
What i am hearing is that 901 based boxes which can handle more power and provide IRS the 4spd versions are more suitable to non early 911/914 accustomed drivers.

I’d easily adjust to the dogleg shift pattern to have lower rpm on the freeway.

Hi Martin the 901 boxes use the same gear in the top position wheather a 4 or 5 spd. I just don't see the appeal of the Weevo solution over the outlaw.

Re: Outlaw 5-Speed Trans (Split from Outlaw Engine thread)
I think the setup that gives you lower rpm in 5th is to use the higher Z or ZA gearset that was in various transmissions -
X ratio - 0.857 - common 5th gear
Y ratio - 0.821 - common 5th gear
Z ratio - 0.793 - various and 914
ZA ratio - 0.759 - this is your real freeway flyer
This site has the ratios for most (or all) 901 type trans - http://www.gboxweb.com/901specs.html

Re: Outlaw 5-Speed Trans (Split from Outlaw Engine thread)
I think 914 s tended to have such a fifth gear, I would definitely want that. And I prefer to stick with swing axles just because I am stubborn. Why would you want to have improved rear suspension geometry?

Hi Martin
914 used ZD 31/22 .7097 can be used in any 901 based transmission or if you are really going for the land speed record use a 901 third gear flipped 19/32 .594

That would be ideal with a 616 eight cylinder conversion

Re: Outlaw 5-Speed Trans (Split from Outlaw Engine thread)
wevo boxes uses 901 internals, so same can handle the same power. I think the idea was to have a reversible solution without having to do modification to the chassi (beside a virtually invisible one on A cars torsion tube top part of the tube housing). I personally use the 5th speed on long trip where 70mph-ish @3k is perfectly nice to have a conversation with your copilot.

Re: Outlaw 5-Speed Trans (Split from Outlaw Engine thread)
Perhaps totally irrelevant, but' when I built my engine test stand, I used a '68 VW Beetle case and noticed the mainshaft from my '66 912 901 5-spd. fit perfectly in the VW case.
