Help identifying a number plate

#1 Post by Ernest Burguieres »

I have been going through a lot of old 356 stuff from my 1954 Speedster days (VIN 80046). I came across another number plate (80405) that I believe was attached to the driver side door near the hinge. Everything seems to be made out of aluminum. It also looks like an early Speedster number but it was not from my car. Anybody have any ideas?

I just don't remember it. I sold the Speedster in the 1970's I think. But, the color is the same as my Speedster which was sold to me as a 1956.

The last 2 or 3 digits of the chassis number will be on the back side of the hinge cover at the bottom.

James Davies, there is a "405" on the back of the hinge cover at the bottom. I have a decklid and tail clip for sale in the classified section. Would there be a serial number on those tow items?

Are they from the same car as the hinge plate?
They wouldn’t have a full vin but the lid should have the last three digits.

The decklid and tail clip are from a different car.

I’m missing the hing plate for my 55 Speedster. I’ll take a look in the classified section to if it is listed.

Thanks.

Dan Kalinski - I have not listed the hinge plate in the classifieds, just the decklid and tail clip that I think is from a B.
