Wiper Arms

#1 Post by Jim Wayman »

I have 3 types of wiper arm setups and want to know what the application for each is. I have attached 3 pictures. The first shows the arm bases, 2 short and 1 longer. The second shows the end view of the arm bases. You can see that the 2 short bases are different in that one fits a narrow arm and the other a wider one. The longer base fits a narrow arm. Finally, the 2 arm types I have. Both the same length, but one narrow and one wider. Does anyone know the application for the long base/narrow arm; the short base/narrow arm; and the short base/wider arm?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the order of the pictures. When submitted, they reversed order.

Difficult to say without some dimensions for reference.
Generally, the wider arms are replacement parts from the late 1980s - onward.
Same for the bracket with the larger, wider hole - - - -

The long bases are 73MM long and the short ones are 65MM long. The narrow arms are 190MM long and the wide ones are 198MM long. Hope this helps in the identification.

Jim

The short brackets are for vw cars mid-1950s through mid-1960s
The longer ones are for P-356 cars from mid-1954 and 356A cars.

Thanks Don. So for a 1955 car there should be the long bases with the thin flat arms?
