Joris, This is the full photo from the Ludvigsen files showing the decidedly non-standard arrangements on this 1954 werkes 550.

Here's a link to the original scan on that photo by Rudi Mailander.

But yeah, looks like they used the standard Bosch ignition lock for that 550, which was at the time, the Bosch SH/ZS 1/1 with Bxxx code ignition keys, as we've been discussing. Hence the standard bent-window bezel, Joris. In ~April 1954 they switched to a different Bosch lock with a slightly different keyway and Cxxx code keys, and a different shaped key, and this was used on all subsequent pre-A cars.

Spencer sent me your suggestion about the key chart and I added it to the Quick Reference page I created on the new website.
The screenshots below are of that page. The proportions are distorted because it is the desktop view on an iPad so things are squished a bit. The chart at the bottom of the page contains links to extracts of the shop manuals indicated, not to the entire manuals. Please send me any other specs, tables, lists, graphs or calculators that would be useful as a quick reference.

PS you can get a sneak peek of the website if you do a little detective work. I just changed one entry to “Manufacturing date Codes on Porsche 356 Parts by Paul Hatfield” in order to give Paul credit for original work. Many of the web pages like this one are Members Only so you’ll have to wait a few days to see it. Please post any comments about the new website in this topic - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54023&p=407421#p407421.
