Hey guys, my first time doing a 356 Euro car, mine car found in storage not operated in 45 years but the engine had NPR big bore p/cs so it had been gone through in the past. What color should the euro heat exchangers be? Are they the same grey as the muffler should be? Mine were black when I got them but might have been changed.
Heater valves for Euro - are they silver? They looked silver when I took them off. Any comments on how I refinished them?
Can anyone tell me the difference between the tailpipes on a USA vs Euro car? I ordered a set from Stoddard and the fit is sloppy to say the least but I have not tightened them down yet.
Lastly is a pic of my transaxle resto just for fun.
I am looking for Euro muffler brackets & a black knob cigarette lighter if anyone has them
Thanks - Mark - Vintage Excellence

Hi Mark, Back in 2018 I posted a photo of a NOS set of late Euro heater valves. They are plated silver. I have attached a screen shot, hoping it's here.

Mark, there's a picture of a group of engines still in the factory in this recent thread

The heat exchangers appear to be the same color gray as the muffler. Stoddard has a rattle can high temp muffler paint that they claim to be close to the original muffler color.
I have seen the later style heat control valves in silver, actually zinc or cad plated as the ones that Jim posted above. Jim also shows a set of the unobtainium heater hoses with the 65mm sleeve on the 60mm paper pipe. The 60mm pipe is readily available but the 65 is not. I have used a short piece of the 911 rubberized or silicone heater hose to make the connection.
Not sure on the early style heat control valves as you have - I've seen mostly painted black but who knows at this point.

To comment on your other questions (I won't say answer) - Stoddard and/or Aase Sales may have the muffler hanger brackets.
I believe the S pipes are the same between the two heater systems. The muffler outlet spacing and diameter are the same.
I wrote an article on the Euro heater system that appeared in a Registry Magazine in 2018, don't recall the exact issue - there are a lot of pictures and you may find it entertaining.

Re: 356C Euro exhaust colors? And heater valves
Hi Jim, that is an interesting picture of NOS parts. As a 911 expert I know all the parts on those cars very well and that late 356 euro valve is an obvious predecessor to the short wheel base 911/912 valve but still longer to fit the different chassis. Silver color - interesting. The car I have is an earlier 64 SC so and these heater valves are the first I have had my hands on and they are unique compared to others. I’m guessing most have rusted away and they are hard to find, jim saunders wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 11:16 pm Hi Mark, Back in 2018 I posted a photo of a NOS set of late Euro heater valves. Re: 356C Euro exhaust colors? And heater valves
Hi Mark, just to make life a bit more difficult, the part number for the inner [ outlet from the muffler ] elbow part is different for the Euro system. Old system is 616 111 221 02 and the Euro is 616 111 221 03. The part numbers for the outer elbow part that exits into the funnels doesn't seem to have changed. I found my NOS set on eBay some years ago, described as an anti - rattle kit, and it appeared nobody knew what that was, I think I was the only bidder. I couldn't believe my luck. jim.

Re: 356C Euro exhaust colors? And heater valves
To answer Mark Allen questions in the first post:
Euro heat exchangers were painted grey
Euro heater valves were zinc plated
Tail pipes were painted grey
BTW, brake hose brackets on transaxle were grey
Wind-up axle boot clamps were grey phosphate
Anyone have a solution for the 65 mm paper hose? This paper hose is 65 mm dia. but is brown color: 930-211-622-01
For the muffler clamps, cut down and weld 911 ones, 901-111-157-04.

Re: 356C Euro exhaust colors? And heater valves
I hand made a batch of the 356 muffler clamps based on a rusted out Norma 163 clamp I had. The 911 camps are wider, use a 10mm bolt and don't have the bridging piece, but after all, it is only a muffler clamp. Mark seems to have some used ones in his stash.
