Hardtop colour on a '61 cab

#1 Post by Rafik Dous »

My Aetna blue '61 cab came to me with only a hardtop.
Hardtop colour is white, so my question were hardtops painted body colour or they were different? If different from body colour, did the factor follow a colour combo?
Picture below of the car now, it will be resprayed tbe original colour soon.
TIA

My 59 cab came with a factory installed hard top and the folding top wrapped in fabric. It was body color

Hey Rafik! Both is possible. I have seen silver cars with black hard tops from the factory. What does your kardex or reutter certificate say?
Jules

Hey Jules, don't have the Kardex or CoA but have received info from Porsche by email. It does not mention anything about the hard top.
Also I have some old pictures of the car from the early 80s, it had a soft top back then. So who knows what happened since.

I have another question
Is there a difference between a T5 hardtop and a T6 one?

I tried to fit the hardtop to the car but it looks misaligned. The front latches took a bit of work to get them to operate and now the back of the hardtop looks too far to one side even though it is bolted to the B pillar.
Also the bottom edge of the hardtop doesn't seem to follow the body lines

I am wondering if I am trying to fit a T6 hardtop on a T5 car. Is there a difference between the two?

Rafik,

There is no difference between a T5 and T6 hardtop. The A hardtop and B/C hardtop is different only in that the B/C hardtop has pop out rear quarter windows. I have an A style hardtop that fits my C cab perfectly.

Question, and please don't mind me asking, but since you don't have a Kardex or a COA is it possible your car is a Karmann Hardtop converted to cabriolet? Does the chassis numbers start with a 1 (Reutter) or a 2 (Karmann)?

Hi Sebastian, its an original cab. I have enough history on it and also the chassis number checks out (154789). Kardex has been obtained and confirms its a hardtop only car.
Thank you for confirming there is no difference.
Looks like the hardtop is slightly wrapped around the back and will need some panel work to get it to fit correctly
