Can someone post a picture of their base windscreen rubber where it meets the vertical rubber please?
I can't recall exactly how the two meet. I think the base rubber had to be notched and it goes under the frame till it meets the post.
Hopeful what I am saying makes sense.
Thanks in advance

I believe I recall something to do with cutting an angled notch on the lower rubber seal, but my car has this look. It certainly was not original, but it was clean and neat. Of course these seals had nothing to do with keeping rainwater out!

The lower seal is cut at an angle and beveled at the ends. The upper seal is cut at an angle to rest on top of the ends of the lower seal. The lower seal does not run off past the outer edge of the upper seal.
Here are a few examples. The B&W pics are enlargements of period photos of Speedsters when they were brand new.
Hope this helps. BTW - hopefully you have the Speedster windshield rubber seals from TG Restorations - - perfect repros.

Tim Goodrich made the best seals before he passed. They are still the best, his wife still provides his seals. Contact Diane Goodrich at 541-218-3384 email used to be Tim Goodrich <murphyfolks@frontier.com>

Re: 1958 Speedster windscreen rubber
The windshield post gasket should curve around the sharp front leading edge reversing direction to seal off the area between the post and the bottom windshield frame. Since that gasket isn't available, many restorers use the deco base rubber. It must be "pie" cut to allow the rubber to curve around the post. I used glue to hold it into position. Do not just cut it leaving a bare rubber edge exposed at the post. Use black "dum dum" to fill in any gaps.

Pete, Having known you for decades and admired your 356 and engineering knowledge, perhaps you can enlighten us as to the correct way to fold the towel used to sop up the water coming through the gaskets when it rains.
Even though I owned a Speedster for 44 years, I never really found out the factory instructions on this point....

Maybe he can enlighten us, but I don't think Porsche ever gave us those instructions. I found that using the same procedure that I had previously used on my Austin-Healey 100 worked rather well......

Good one Dick Roth! I sure miss your humor.
Experience has taught us both that the only way to avoid getting wet in a Speedster is to not drive in the rain!!

Her is my trick of the day for solving the correct fit for the side post base gasket. Purchase the same rubber piece for a Roadster and modify it slightly as needed.
