cowl vent box related
Hi all, couple questions regarding the front plastic cowl vent/drain-what was the original drain hose material? Any tricks on reattaching the hose at the nipple on side of the front trunk, under the passenger side trunk hinge? Looks like a toughie.
Also my screen on the vent housing is shot. What is the best source/most accurate materials to replace it? Also the weather stripping/foam seal-any source?
Working on my 63 T-6 coupe. Appreciate it. Brian

The screen is plastic coated metal. I think it would withstand paint stripper if that would help revive it.

Thanks, my screen is toast-half missing. I currently have a clear plastic tube-doesn't seem very 63 Porsche like. Any sources of replacements? I can cut and make a screen-appears to have been body color but who knows..

I believe they have the seal as well. The screen looks like plastic-coated window screen; German of course. Maybe a suitable mesh from McMaster Carr or?
If I recall correctly, I attached the hose before I installed the right side fresh air intake.

I am not sure if he still is around or has any-but Bill Webster has a seal made years ago. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31805&p=173682&hili ... al#p173682 See post by Wm Webster. Stoddard used to have correct hose for both 90 degree and 45 degree hoses. You almost have to remove the passenger side fresh air horn to install the hose. 90 degre hose: https://www.stoddard.com/nla57192107-64 ... 7-nla.html and 45 degree hose for 62 and early 63: https://www.stoddard.com/nla57192106-64 ... 6-nla.html And here is a link about the original screen. NLA I think-I found something that I used at a hobby store: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36148&p=214245&hili ... en#p214245

T-6 screen is grey plastic coated wire mesh. Black plastic box accepts the straight hose -- see NLA 571 921 06
356 C screen is painted nylon mesh. Black plastic box accepts a bent ("peace pipe") hose -- see NLA 571 921 07
The top of the black plastic box is sealed with a sponge rubber strip see https://www.stoddard.com/nla57132500-64 ... 0-nla.html for just the strip
or this kit for the 356C box https://www.stoddard.com/64457101206.html

Brian-
I have about 4 years of notes and a Blog about the resurrection of my C coupe. The Blog is sorted by Months. Anyway, the July 2018 Blog has several photos of my restoration of the vent screen. I was able to save the original and photos are posted there.

Perhaps click around a bit when you are on the site- might be more there that is useful to you.

That's the color of the screens I have stripped of paint; ivory-colored.

I said the 356C was painted nylon mesh. But I left out the color of the paint on the nylon mesh -- because I don't know what color; all of those that I've come across were over sprayed with primer or the last color of the car.
So question is: Color of paint on the car? some sort of neutral color? Anybody know for sure ?

I replaced the original broken plastic screen with a piece of stainless steel mesh, years ago.
Porsche should have done this as well ?

Brad-
My car is a 1965 model and production (February 65). The photos in my post are of the original screen after I carefully washed and straightened out some of the screen. As for color, I once got into a discussion with Jim Breazeale about the color of the plastic coated seat belt anchors for T6. He called it ivory, I called it light gray but we were both describing the very same anchor. I will say that the color of the screen is the same or very close to that color. Might have started out light gray and faded to ivory, but whatever you want to call it, it's close to the color of that anchor, which is also very close to the color of the C fan shroud. Please take into account my wife says I am color blind

So, the 356 screen was paint grey on on cars, no mater the color of the car? Anybody else?

Re: cowl vent box related
Brad that might be correct, but open to color interpretation. On my T6 I feel like it is closer to ivory than grey, and I am not among the people that calls the fan shroud color white or ivory.
I don’t know if my screen is from a B or C.
