Race - 356 - engine / strange number

#1 Post by Mark Schwartz »

Hi. Just trying to find out any info about this strange 356 engine project.
As I supposed its probably some US improvisation about 356 engine because the all block is painted :)

Does anybody recognise it from past? The engine got dry sump and org Webers 44 or 45.
The mark on block shows that is 1900 cc bore. Very strange number is pressed 2716771 what means in all Porsche specs nothing..
The halves ot top is just "S" stamp. No Numbers like 616 etc...

But I am wondering what it can be.. ? No any home builders no change the numbers that way.
Maybe I am worng.. :)

Any ideas.. Maybe somebody know this project?
:D

I can't shed any light on the engine itself, but I do recall that it was offered for sale on TheSamba.com some years ago.

So the 3 piece case was probably a new un-numbered case purchased as a spare part. So to learn much about it, then it would have to come apart and be measured. There are likely date cost on the case pieces to provide an indication of when they were made.
