Question about engine tray.

#1 Post by robert moglia »

My 356A T2 build date 10/59 has some inconsistencies probably due to late in the year manufacture.
For example no lower door wedges or lock post receptacle ala a B.
In my early enthusiasm I purchased an A engine tray years ago planning replacement of my rusty original but I just noticed the stamping of the original are also of B vintage.
The car is remarkably original # matching engine and body panels so I doubt replacement.
So... put in the new A tray or repair and use the B style?
I know it’s is a silly question but that’s what this forum is for!
Thanks

Bob, since the rest of your car is original, I'd opt for repairing or finding a replacement for the original tray. You can always recoup the costs by selling the A tray.

Thanks Mike, I guess the question I have is: how likely is a B tray found in an A car? Has anyone else seen this? No mention in Johnson’s Guide. But IIRC he does mention the lock post change.

Since yours is a late '59, anything is possible.
"Porsche...consistently inconsistent..."
