356 BT5 Roadster History tracking.....

#1 Post by Tom Reindl »

Good morning 356 enthusiasts,

I am trying to find out the history of my BT5 Roadster.
Maybe someone knows something about the history of 87426.
Porsche 356 B / 1600S Roadster
Engine No. 85 636
Trans. No. 34465
silvermet. 6006
The car came back to Germany in the 80s and was forgotten in an underground car park in Stuttgart. The first document is dated 10.11.1992 from Porsche Classic GmbH. It shows that 87426 was delivered to Stuttgart via Hoffman, New York on 14.1.1960, presumably as a tourist delivery.
Unfortunately, nothing more is known about the history.
The original engine, 85636, was exchanged at some point for a "KD" stamped replacement engine.
Maybe someone knows something about this car or about the remaining of the original engine.
This is the only car in my collection without a history.

Cheers

tom

Beautiful car!!! I am actually in the same boat. I just joined this group, as I just bought my first ever 356. The previous owner doesn't know anything about it. Ugh....Any advise on where to begin?

If you get a Kardex you may find the original owners name on the Kardex. I did.

Mine came with a Kardex and Bill Block was a big help. Looks like mine was a European car....Wonder how and when it came over to the states! Love thinking about the stories these cars have. If only they could talk....

Yes, would have been fun to be a fly on the headliner through all those years. Not sure I would have wanted to be part of the upholstery.....
