Aluminum bumper

#1 Post by Olivier Lory »

Hi,
I'm wondering if the 356 BT5 Carrera GT exposed at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart has aluminium bumpers?

What do we know about the existence of aluminium bumpers? Is there some background discussion that I have missed? I'm not saying they don't exist, I just never heard of one personally and my 1959 lightweight GT coupe had steel bumpers, but that doesn't necessarily prove anything. A related comment: the 59GT had thinner metal bumper brackets, which I did not know existed until I saw them for myself. In case you wondering, they were clearly a factory part.

Because I found an aluminum front bumper on the net;
Like you, it's the first time I saw this kind of part and never heard about it in the past.
So, I suppose it's not coming from the Porsche factory ...Maybe I'm wrong ...

My good friend had a late 51 early 52 split window, the fan shrouding was aluminum.
I have never seen another one. What made us believe it was original to the car?

His car was ALL matching numbers!! In addition to the last 3 digits being present on all of the panels,
The last 3 digits were present on the backs of the aluminum bumper decos as well as the back of the wooden garnish rails.
Just an FYI, there are a lot of nuances with Porsches, that what makes it fun.
