Hello,
I am about to restore two engines: late 55 and early 58 1600 Normal :
can anybody tell me paint colours/ colour codes for engine parts to be restored like the fan housing, oil canister and others.
Is the fan housing always in black ( only later models in silver?); and the oil canisters? which color in which year. I don't have an orientation.
thanks for your help!

I know there was a previous thread on the colors of fan shrouds and other parts. Try Googling the topic.
Generally, the fan shrouds for Normal engines were black and silver for Super. Depending upon the oil filter canister, silver but some with a black top. Engine tin was what some describe as a satin black.

The fan housing was semi gloss black unless the car was a “super” in which case it would be a silver tin. I have the orange Fram Oil filter housing. I’ve seen silver
And green as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong but there is some discussion on the production moment when super engines has silver fan shrouds. The first supers until T2 were also black?

Christian - not sure where you're located - might want to add that to your profile so people can refer you to local resources.
Here in Southern California, many powder coater businesses have experience doing Porsche sheet metal and have a preferred color that has been accepted by local restorers.

A short time ago I asked about oil canister covers and got this response that helped.
