Original headliner documentation

#1 Post by Joris Koning »

My playing around with the perforated vinyl has raised the topic of the headliners. I'd be interested in documenting original headliners starting with the early A cars. If you have an known original headliner in your car I would love to hear on the following:

- Car and body builder
- Pattern, square, diamond etc.
- Sizing of above and holes
- Punched through or needle punched holes
- Headliner texture

TIA,

Joris

I have the original headliner from my '61 Reutter coupe parts car, remnants from my '60 Reutter coupe and a used original headliner from a C coupe that was posted in the classifieds back in November.

All 3 are of the same color, grain, and hole pattern/shape. There are slight variations in color and texture, but I attribute that to variations between manufacturing lots and how much the headliner was exposed to tobacco smoke and UV light over the past 55-60 years.

Thanks,

Attached pictures of original headliners from three cars:

- 63 Coupe
- 57 coupe
- 56 coupe

The texture and holes on the early A headliners sees to be a bit different from the later (T5 onwards?) ones. See attached picture of original '63 headliner for reference. Jan, do yours look like the early ones or the 63 one pointed here.

All 3 of my headliners are identical to the 1963 headliner pictured.
