Making sense of the Kardex of Mom's Continental Coupe

#1 Post by Lewis Ward »

OK guys, I am new to this so bear with me. I just recently obtained a copy of the Kardex for my mothers Continental. The engine and chassis numbers match the car. It is not likely that the transmission number matches because it had been replaced years ago according to her. What are the codes in the last two boxes on top? C 091 and 5420? I easily googled the color 5403 ''graphite metallic'' to see what the cars original paint looked like. However, according to a very knowledgably member of the registry, he said the interior combo of beige/weinrot was more than likely a special order from Hoffman. What does the entire color combo code of the interior ''CS beige/Kunstl weinro'' mean and what would it look like? Thanks Lewis

C-091 is the ignition switch number, 5420 is the key number.
I dont know what CS beige means, but Kunstleder is vinyl or man made leather.

Yes, and while not common, it's not a special order combination.

CS means cordsammen which is indeed corduroy as pointed out above. Cord inserts seem to have been quite commen in the later pre-a and early A cars. I am sure James will tell us more

Pete and I got together yesterday to look at some of the features of my Continental coupe. We looked at the cardex you sent him and both agreed that your upholstery was probably red vinyl with corduroy inserts. Your mom's car should have had a blunt nose "A" type hood handle? Is it still on the car?

Thanks for the info Jim. I am not sure about the hood handle. I am working with Mom on getting more pictures of the car. When and if she decides that she really wants to sell it, we will do it right and get a professional to photograph everything. I am just trying to learn as much about the car and its history so when the time comes, it will be an easy and less stressful process for her. A few weeks ago I knew absolutely nothing about these cars but now I have joined this registry of very knowledgeable car guys who are a huge help and I even purchased a copy of Brett Johnsons Restorer's Guide to learn even more.
