Horn button, 911/912?

#1 Post by John Wurner »

This horn button is new, not the usual 356 type.
Perhaps 911/912? About 1 1/4" tall
Would like to know what I am selling.

What does the back look like? Refers to "glue in"...

Dick
I think the glue in is the crest area.
The back is just like the B/C type.

I think the glue in is for the crest area.
The back looks like the B/C button.

john, it looks like a mismatch. Looks like an A horn button in a hockey puck swb housing. It would have originally had a leather embossed center with a very fragile chrome ring holding it in.

The hockey puck was mostly used on 912s, the 911 got the batwing.

The top of the horn button is flat, not like the A horn button.

my early 912 is like that with out the horn wings, but has a leather embossed crest in the center. That may be an early aftermarket with a colored crest.

this is what a SWB horn button looks like. The base version has no 'ears', the deluxe version had ears and is commonly called a batwing. The LWB then got a 'butterfly'. I think John B is onto something.

Jules is right about the base. The glued on face crest element may not be a factory part but from an aftermarket steering wheel (lenkrad).
