Door tops for 59 S/R

I have a new to me 59 sun roof Coupe, and someone in the past thought the door tops
would look bitchen if they were chromes.
I dont, so want to take them back to normal.
I have been told they were painted interior color, someone else suggested they were covered in fabric.
Anyone want to trade?
How did they come from the factory?

Painted. On later cars they were covered.

John, This is my '58 cabriolet Kardex color code 5706A. Upholstery is Porsche Red from Autobahn Interiors and door tops are Ruby Red - color matched to Willhoit paint sample. The red door top color is not identical, but compliments the upholstery. Likely your '59 was originally similar.

Thank you, Spencer. My 59 Cab has the same colored door tops, but I was not sure if the Coupe had the same treatment.

My 1958 sunroof coupe came with ruby red paint and beige interior (which I would call tan) as per COA. The previous owner painted the car silver including the door caps. When I removed the door caps the back sides still had original paint that was alot darker than the ruby red. In the attached photo the flash made the door caps look a little lighter than they actually are. I had the dash top upholstered in a dark red that matches the door tops. I based my decision on some research and the picture on the back cover of "Neals Book". You can tell how difficult it is to get a photo of ruby red by comparing the pictures under the interior section of Neils Book with the back cover. I know some of you will say my car is not right but I like the result and the car will never go to Pebble Beach.

Door top color on the A cars is dictated by the color of the dash top. Some of the light interior colours got a different colored dash top, most usually one mimicking the exterior color.

Thanks Doug, I bought them from a very nice fellow registry member. I have been working on replacing the foam with a softer version but other than that I really like them!
